This will be one of the hardest pages to do since I started this site.The flood pages were hard but you can't stop mother nature. She tore Coalwood up pretty good .

Man made destruction is another matter.  On Saturday morning March 29, 2008 Alwest, the owners of the Coalwood properity, decided that the company store was a hazard and razzed the structure.  A historical land mark destroyed forever.

The reason for this -  I guess there are many.  The building was structuraly damaged.  The building in one form or another had only been there for over 100 years.  Lack of money to keep the structure updated and the lack of concern by many people.  What ever the reason, one fact is evident, it is lost to the ages.  All that is left is the memories of  another time.  No word from Alwest, if any, of the remaining structures will be razzed.  But I will update as I know them.  This is another reason I was so happy to have the Coalwood book finished.  At least we have the history of Coalwood in writing and the pictures of the town.
