IT'S FINALLY FINISHED !!!!!!!!
Before you read excerpts from the book, I want to tell you a little story. For over 20 years I have been collecting the history of Coalwood.  At first it was just a casual picture or a piece of paper with a tall tale.  Then after the mine shut down I really got serious about finding what ever I could on Coalwood.  Rhonda and I traveled many miles talking to people.  I drove 240 miles for 1 copy of the Coalwood News.......  My dream was to do a published book on Coalwood but some times I must admit that "I really didn't know what to do next!  I had purchased the history book on Gary Hollow, written by Alex Schust.  At the 2005  Annual October Sky Festival Alex was one of the vendors so I asked him to sign my book.  Alex and I had a great conversation that day and he made the statement: "you know some one should do a history on Coalwood".  I told him what I had been doing for many years.  That was all that was said that day.  A few days later we talked at length on the subject of the history of Coalwood and we decided to make it a joint venture.  After 18 months of almost daily emails, phone chats several times a week and many personal visits, we have put together a book on the history of Coalwood Caretta and Six from the first days to the present.  The hardest thing for us was deciding what pictures to use.  With over a thousand to choose from it was hard.  The book is now done and that's what counts.  When you read the book I know you will be impressed with the milestones that have happened in the communities.  I have learned a lot about the towns and I lived there.

Click on the following link below (and then go page to page) to get a glimpse of this wondrous small, but mighty coal town that has captured the heart of the country.  You can not give a history lesson without the people and you can not tell a story about the people without telling their history.  I am very proud of what Alex and I have accomplished and I know you will enjoy it too.  Once the people of Coalwood read it, I think they also will be just as proud.  If not,  I guess I will be banned from town forever.....enjoy the preview!

Almost forgot - the images in the next few pages will not be as clear as the book itself.  That is because I had to cut the pixel size down so it will load faster and use less web space...David
